Investigations Division: Help solve a Crime

Case Number: 04-34837

On July 4, 2004 at approximately 1:50 am, officers responded to the area of 507 South York Street, which is on the citiy's southeast side, concerning a report of an injured man. Upon arrival, officers found Thomas A. Smith, motionless on the ground. The victim was bleeding from the head.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where it was determined that the victim had been shot in the head with a .22 caliber bullet.

A witness who was in the area reported hearing 3 or 4 "muffled pops" and saw 2 black males running from the area.


Case Number: 02-44024

On August 15, 2002 at approximately 2:42 am, officers were dispatched to 628 Tarimore Drive, which is on the city's southwest side, concerning the report of a man having been shot and was down. Officers arrived to find William L. Tyree Jr., age 33, lying in the driveway. Witnesses reported hearing 4 to 6 gunshots before finding the victim. The victim was shot 3 times.

Mr. Tyree stated that he had just arrived home from his job and was walking to his residence. He heard gunshots and felt himself get shot, then he fell to the ground.

The incident has left Mr. Tyree paralyzed from the waist down. Any help from the community would be useful in resolving this crime.
