Uniform Patrol Division: Safety City Program
Springfield's Safety City was started in 1968 under the direction of, now retired, Officer Herman Carr. He brought this program to Springfield through his love of children and his desire to educate them on dangers that come with growing up. The current program is instructed by city D.A.R.E. officers and targets children between 5 and 6 years of age. Safety City is a week long class which introduces children to a different danger each day. Home safety, fire safety, traffic laws, and strangers are among the topics covered. This program has always been free of charge to the public.
Safety City is sponsored and funded by The Springfield Pilot Club. Without the support of the Pilot Club, this program could not be provided. Our thanks go out to them!
In our efforts to make SAFETY CITY a more memorable and fun filled experience for your child, we have many features including:
- Fire Safety Trailer
- Photo ID Cards
- 3 Safety Robots
- Custom Designed Safety Course - complete with miniature Springfield landmarks to drive "cars" around.
