Springfield Police Department has two K-9 units. The units became active in May of 2013. Both canines are trained in narcotics detection, tracking and handler protection.
Both K-9 units are certified by the State of Ohio and must re-certify every two years. They formally train together on a weekly basis, but informally train daily.
