Cold Case Files

The Springfield Police Division currently has the following unsolved homicides. These cases remain open and will stay open until they are solved. It is our personal commitment to seek justice for these victims and their grieving families. As you look at these cases, understand that in some cases we need only a small piece of information to solve these crimes. These cases are not in order as they all hold importance to us. Bailum, Avery K., 4, was found dead inside his bedroom. Avery was the victim of an arson fire. On August 16, 1994, at approximately 6:15am, Springfield Police and the Springfield Fire Divisions responded to a house fire at 17 Miller Street. Upon their arrival, the residence was fully engulfed in flames. Nine of the ten people inside, who had been asleep, were able to get out of the house. Adults inside the residence were able to drop children from a second story window in order to save their lives. Avery ran and hid beneath his bed and could not be located in time to save him. Arson investigators determined the cause of the fire to be a flammable liquid which had been poured on the porch and set on fire. Anyone with information on the death of this child is asked to come forward.

Hickman, Arthur "Darrell", 30, was found shot to death on December 20, 1981 at 118 1/2 West Southern Avenue. At about 7:30pm two emergency phone calls were received about a shooting at that location. At about 7:41pm, officers kicked down the door at that residence and found the victim lying in the stairwell, with a gunshot wound to the head. Two black males were seen running from the area at approximately 7:20pm. This case can be solved with some assistance from the community.

Miller, Timothy J. "TJ", 19,during the early morning hours of Sunday October 31, 1982, was struck and killed by a hit and run driver in the 700 block of North Limestone Street. Prior to his death, TJ had been at a party on Roseland Avenue West, and at the Union Station bar on East Main Street. TJ was seen in the downtown area at approximately 3:00am. He was found lying in the roadway at 4:14am. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:15am. TJ's family seeks closure to this tragedy.

White (Bibbs), Gloria Jean, 37, on February 19, 1994, Ms. White was found brutally murdered in a wooded area of East Pleasant Street between South Belmont Avenue and Abbey Street. Her homicide remains unsolved. Ms. White was last seen February 2, 1994 at Howard's Foods on South Limestone Street in Springfield. Ms. White was wearing black and brown pants, a black sweater and brown ankle high leather shoes. Ms. White had an infectious smile and a kind personality. She left behind her grieving family, including two children who need closure to this crime.

Adkins Jr., Bradley James, 19, was shot to death in the early morning hours of December 28, 2007 while at his home on Sherman Avenue. Brad was home relaxing after a day spent with family and friends during the holiday season. An apparent home invasion has left his family and friends heart broken and struggling to understand why this tragedy occurred. Those questions can be answered and this crime solved with the assistance of the community.

Kreitzer, Raymond L., 34, was found by some local canoe riders in the Mad River, near the mouth of Buck Creek on May 30, 1998. Mr. Kreitzer had been in the water for quite some time. On December 30, 1997 a relative reported him missing. Mr. Kreitzer lived in a wooded area north of Route 41, along the river. He shared a camper with John Campbell, whose body was found just north of Kreitzer's body in the river. Both men had been shot. Mr. Kreitzer left behind a grieving family, including two daughters.

Gebert, Thelma, 41, was found in Buck Creek, near Sherman Avenue, on August 8, 1996. She had gone for a walk after a fight with her boyfriend and never returned. She had bruising about the head and neck. Your help is needed in this case.

Richards, Timothy M., 34, was found shot to death on March 30, 1997 and his body hidden beneath debris near the 18th tee at Snyder Park Golf Course. Mr. Richards was last seen on November 25, 1996. He was known to frequent the "Lantern" bar on West Pleasant Street. Mr. Richards' vehicle, a red 1994 Ford Aspire, was found abandoned in the Park's center parking lot on November 30, 1996. Mr. Richards left behind a grief stricken family that continues to seek answers in his death.

Nunn, Robert "Bobby",16, was shot in the head on January 6, 1998, at approximately 7:00pm on the corner of East Liberty Street and Clifton Avenue. Robert Nunn died on January 7, 1998, as a result of his injuries. There were several witnesses to this crime, however some of these witnesses have not come forward. The murder of this child remains unsolved.

Miller, Gregory, 18, was found dead June 21, 1980, at approximately 6:30am. He was found on the driveway of North High School, the apparent victim of a hit-skip crash. The coroner ruled that Mr. Miller likely died at approximately 3:30am. Upon interview of several persons, it has been determined that as many as four witnesses may have been inside the vehicle that struck this young man. Mr. Miller had been active in the sports program at North High School and looked forward to a promising future. His family seeks closure in this tragedy.

Wade, Dennis R., 47, on August 13, 2002, at approximately 4:00am. this man was sleeping on the porch of 423 West High Street. He was awakened by the feeling of something being poured onto him. He was then set on fire. Mr. Wade was taken to a local hospital and would expire from his injuries on August 21, 2002. Mr. Wade left behind a grieving family that needs answers to this brutal murder.

Hall, Teresa L., 26, on July 22, 1989, at approximately 3:20am. Mrs. Hall was standing on the front porch of 37 West Euclid Avenue. There was an argument going on between family members on the porch. Suddenly, a shotgun blast rang out. Mrs. Hall was struck in the head by the blast and died instantly. Mrs. Hall left behind a husband and young daughter. This case has remained open since that July morning.

Taylor, Anita, 20, On October 29, 1966, at approximately 1:35am. Mrs. Taylor was found on her bedroom floor at 415 Ludlow Avenue. Mrs. Taylor was found by her husband as he returned from work. Mrs. Taylor had been severely beaten and appeared to have been raped. Her 18 month old baby was in a separate bedroom and was badly beaten. The back door of the residence was ajar. The baby would later recover from his physical injuries. Mrs. Taylor was pronounced dead of her injuries upon arrival at a local hospital. Mrs. Taylor's family needs closure to this brutal tragedy. Kilgore, Angela M., 37, was last seen on October 22, 2007, at the Fairfax Motel. Her body was found on April 24, 2008 in a cistern to the rear of 506 Grant Street.

Tyree Jr., William L., 42 resided at 628 Tarimore Drive. He came home from work on August 15,2002 at about 2:40am. As he exited his vehicle, someone was in the backyard who ambushed him and shot him four times. This incident left Mr. Tyree paralyzed from the waist down, confined to a wheelchair. Mr. Tyree struggled with his injuries until October 6, 2010, when he died from complications. His death has been ruled a homicide. Anyone with information in this case is asked to come forward.

Kilby, Donald, 39, on March 15, 1994, around midnight Mr. Kilby was gunned down at 1934 Superior Avenue He was shot in the stomach area. Also shot was William Bailey, age 18, of Dayton. Bailey would later recover. Donald Kilby died at the scene. Mr. Kilby left behind three children.

Davis, Norman L. "Pete", 52, was shot and killed on October, 16 1980, at approximately 5:40am. Mr. Davis had just arrived for work at the Bonded Oil Station on the corner of Limestone and McCreight. He was preparing to open the store for the day. Apparent would-be robbers approached Davis and shot him with a 12 gauge shotgun killing him instantly. Mr. Davis left behind a wife and four children. Springfield Police are still investigating this case.

Dean Jr., Eugene G. "Bubby", 18, was found near the railroad tracks at Park Avenue and Lagonda on October 4, 1983. It first appeared as though he had been hit by a train. An autopsy would later reveal he had been brutally beaten about the head and torso. He was last seen by his family on October 3, 1983, at approximately 10:00pm. Mr. Dean left behind his wife and his future.

Chance, Denise R.,18, was abducted from her Springfield residence at 3140 Erter Drive on January 7, 1985, between the hours of 1:35am and 5:50am. Ms. Chance's body was recovered on March 20, 1985, in a drainage ditch off Baldwin Lane in Clark County. Ms. Chance left behind a heartsick family, looking for closure in her death. Walker, Shakura A., 27 was found on July 13, 2006 lying in Davey Moore Park, north of the baseball diamonds, by police. The victim had been severly beaten about the head. There was also evidence she had been choked. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, with damage to her brain. The victim struggled to survive, but never regained consciousness. Shakura Walker died from the her injuries on May 18, 2007. Anyone with information about this case is asked to come forward.

Smith, Anduan Dupree, 30, was standing outside, in front of 502 South Yellow Springs Street (Citgo gas station) on September 9, 2004 at approximately 11:50pm. There were several others in the parking lot. A black male, possibly getting out of a teal or aqua colored SUV, approached the victim and shot several times, hitting the victim in the chest. The victim was transported to the hospital, but did not survive his injuries. It is believed that numerous people observed the shooting, but have been reluctant to come forward with information. Any information regarding this shooting would be helpful.

Smith, William "Buddha", 20. On June 26, 1994 at approximately 8:50 pm, Smith left his girlfriend's residence in the 100 block of East Liberty Street. Smith was confronted by 2 men in front of 117 East Liberty. One of the men opened fire on Smith with a handgun. Smith was shot multiple times. The shooter and the other man fled in a gray Lincoln Continental Ohio License BOX763, (which was later recovered). Smith was found by police and paramedics, lying on the sidewalk. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronouned dead. Eyewitnesses report many people were in the area that may have crucial information to help solve this case.

Freeman, Buffy Jo, 29 was last seen alive on July 11, 2007 at approximately 11:30pm, near the intersection of Shaffer and Main Streets. On July 12 at 3:26am, the victim's body was found by police in Snyder Park, near the tennis courts. The victim had multiple blunt force trauma to her head and body. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to come forward.

Hartman, Alia M., 25. On Friday, May 9, 2008 at approximately 12:36 am, Springfield Fire Division responded to a structure fire at 1805 Sweetbriar Lane South. After having put out the fire and conducting a secondary sweep of the premises, the body of the victim was found. The fire had been intentionally set and this case was ruled a homicide. Any assistance from the public would be appreciated. There is a private funded reward for the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
