Chief Stephen P. Moody was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio and graduated from Springfield Catholic High School. He was hired by the Springfield Division of Police on August 12, 1974, as a cadet. He worked his way through the ranks and has supervised each department within the division. Chief Moody has graduated from the 195th class of the F.B.I. Academy and the Clark County Leadership Academy. He has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He is active in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, and serves on the Catholic Services and Child Advocacy Boards. Chief Moody was appointed on January 1, 2003 and remains active in the day-to-day operations of this Division.

Executive Commanders

Between 1982 and 1984, the City did not appoint a Police Chief; instead the City created an Executive Commander position and rotated 3 men into the position. While these men were not actual "Chief's", they did provide leadership to the Police Department.
