Springfield is the very definition of American Heartland Community, and an All-America City. Springfield is a city in constant change, abounding with energy - a fountain of hope in the heart of America.
Businesses, government, foundations, social service organizations, and individual citizens fuel the enthusiasm of Springfield, and generate the constant change that shapes our personality. Springfield citizens work daily to build a better community - a place for our neighbors, a place others find interesting.
Recognizing the hard work, cooperation, and determination of Springfield citizens, the National Civic League has bestowed the highest community honor upon the city. The league named Springfield an All-America City in June 2004. The award is the nation's longest running and most prestigious civic recognition program in the United States.
The All-America City Award encourages and recognizes civic excellence, honoring communities that demonstrate successful resolution of critical community issues. Since 1949, more than 4,000 communities have competed, yet only a select few have been named All-America City.
Springfield's commitment to cooperation has been key to the revival of the City. Each resident adds to the rich heritage and culture that is founded deep within the heart of Springfield. The vision and hope of the residents and leaders of the City is that everyone might see what a great time it is to be a part of Springfield - a community committed to partnership and committed to change.
By working together, our citizens are literally redefining what community means in the industrial heartland of America. Come and experience what Springfielders call home - come and enjoy the arts, culture, entertainment and a warm welcome, and then look around and see good people working hard to address the issues that confront our community.
Sincerely,
Mayor Warren R. Copeland
