Springfield, Ohio - All America City 2004

Our Experience...

In June 2004, a delegation of approximately 50 civic leaders, social activists, and community members joined 29 other community delegations to compete for the prestigious All-America City Award. The festive and invigorating competition was held in beautiful Atlanta, Georgia.

Before the delegation could head to the South in June, much preparation was needed. The delegation was selected and individuals organized and scripted the presentation. Plans were made for transportation to and from Atlanta and lodging during the weekend event. Funds were raised in order to pay for the expenses, and the send-off rally was held to celebrate Springfield's accomplishments and the effort that was put into the AAC process.

Most of the delegation loaded the bus early on Friday morning, arriving in Atlanta that afternoon. Once off the bus, the activity never stopped. From the late nice practice session on Friday night to the actual presentation in front of a panel of highly qualified and respected judges on Saturday afternoon, the excitement was contagious.

On Saturday evening, the results were announced... the City of Springfield was selected to be an All-America City! All the hard work and years of dedication by incredible Springfield citizens paid off. The celebration continued late into the night, and why not?! The nation had recognized the commitment of men and women in this community and their desire to cultivate a stronger and better Springfield. For this, we will always be proud!
