The City Commission consists of five members who serve four-year terms. Citizens who seek a seat on the City Commission must be residents of the City for at least one year prior to election and shall continue to be a resident of the City during his or her term of office.
While in office, each Commissioner must remain a citizen of the City. The salary for a City Commissioner is $10,750 annually. The mayor and assistant mayor receive annual salaries of $14,330 and $11,350, respectively.
Vested with the City Commission is the power to enact local legislation, adopt budgets, determine policies, and appoint the city manager, law director, finance director, and city clerk.
The City Commission is required to meet at least 48 times each year. No more than 14 days may pass without a meeting of the body. Meetings of the City Commission are held in the Forum of City Hall on Tuesday evenings. The required legislative meetings begin at 7:00pm.
